Banking Bureau
The Banking Bureau:
- conducts on-site examinations of District-chartered banks;
- conducts examinations of non-depository financial services institutions doing business in the District of Columbia;
- issues licenses to check cashers, consumer credit service organizations, money lenders, money transmitters, mortgage brokers and lenders, and consumer sales finance companies; and
- reviews consumer complaints regarding banks and nondepository financial institutions to determine compliance with District of Columbia laws and regulations.
The Banking Bureau consists of one office and two divisions:
- Office of the Banking Bureau's Associate Commissioner
- Examinations Division
- Licensing Division
The Office of the Banking Bureau's Associate Commissioner:
- oversees the daily operations of the Banking Bureau;
- plans and directs a bank and nondepository regulatory program;
- makes final determination on granting licenses to regulated entities; and
- selects programs and training courses to develop subordinates, evaluates subordinates, and recommends promotions and reassignments.
